Equipment Research in Starfield refers to the type of projects you can run which will enable you to craft new armor mods to boost performance and protection.

What is Equipment Research in Starfield?
Equipment Research is one of five major research categories available in the research laboratory. You can build spaces for these laboratories in your starships and outposts so you can have easy access to check on your projects.
There are four equipment or armor slots:
- Spacesuits
- Packs
- Helmets
- Apparel
Spacesuits and Helmets make up the slots for your outer protective gear. Most of the armor mod improvements will likely focus on them. These upgrades will increase damage reduction from weapons, as well as offering greater protection from environmental elements.
Packs refers to the jet or booster pack your character will wear on their back. There will likely be mods that improve it’s performance, as well. Upgrades could include greater jet power, which would send you higher into the sky. Additionally, another type of upgrade could improve energy efficiency of the pack, thus allowing you to stay in the air for a longer period of time.
